EC Transfers 173 Police Station Heads Across Bengal Ahead of Assembly Polls
•
The Election Commission transferred 173 police station heads, including 31 under Kolkata Police, to ensure free and fair Assembly elections.
•
Officers in key constituencies like Bhabanipur and Nandigram were part of the reshuffle.
•
Soumitra Basu from STF will now head Bhabanipur police station, a crucial seat where CM Mamata Banerjee faces Suvendu Adhikari.
•
The EC also ordered the transfer of 14 BDOs in Purba Medinipur, including Nandigram I and II blocks, and 83 BDOs/AROs across 18 districts.
•
These large-scale transfers aim to ensure neutrality in law enforcement and minimise local influence during elections.
