Gold Hallmarking Expands to 7 More Districts, Total 380 Across India

Mandatory gold hallmarking extended to 7 new districts, bringing the total to 380 across India.
•
New districts include Rupnagar (Punjab), Banda (Uttar Pradesh), Beed (Maharashtra), Gomati (Tripura), Katihar (Bihar), Beawar (Rajasthan), and Neemuch (Madhya Pradesh).
•
Launched by the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) on June 23, 2021, for 14, 18, 20, 22, 23, and 24 carat gold jewellery and artefacts.
•
Over 600 million gold items were hallmarked as of March 5 this year, ensuring consumer protection.
•
Gold hallmarking is a quality certification of gold purity, preventing fraud from adulterated products.
