Govt to Add 1.95 Crore Beneficiaries Under Food Law, Parliament Informed

• The Centre announced scope to add 1.95 crore beneficiaries under the National Food Security Act (NFSA).
• NFSA provides 5 kg of free foodgrains per person per month to Priority Households (PHH) and 35 kg to Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) households.
• Minister Nimuben Jayantibhai Bambhaniya stated that PMGKAY covers up to 75% rural and 50% urban population for free foodgrains.
• Currently, 79.40 crore persons are identified against an intended coverage of 81.35 crore, leaving 1.95 crore potential beneficiaries.
• States/UTs are continuously asked to identify eligible persons, and the food subsidy for PMGKAY is nearly Rs 2 lakh crore for FY25.
