India-Japan Intellectual Conclave Kizuna held in Shillong, CM Sangma highlights strong ties
•The Sixth India-Japan Intellectual Conclave, themed "Kizuna" (a lasting bond), was held in Shillong with Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma as Chief Guest.
•CM Sangma emphasized mutual respect, democratic values, and economic cooperation as anchors for India-Japan ties, highlighting Japan as a steadfast development partner for Meghalaya.
•Meghalaya has collaborated with Japan on youth empowerment, including placing 47 nurses and signing an MoU to train and place 500 youth this year, scaling to 5,000 over five years.
•Agricultural innovation includes India's first commercial Shiitake Blocks production in Upper Shillong with Japanese support, benefiting over 1000 farmers.
•JICA is a major development partner in Meghalaya, investing in infrastructure, sustainable forestry (MegLIFE project restoring 22,500 Ha of forests), and renovating hydro power stations.
