January CPI Inflation Hits 2.75% Under New 2024 Base Year

•All India CPI inflation for January 2026 recorded at 2.75% over January 2025, using the new base year 2024.
•Rural and urban inflation rates are 2.73% and 2.77% respectively.
•Base year revised from 2012 to 2024, incorporating Household Consumption Expenditure Survey 2023-24.
•New CPI includes 12 Divisions (up from 6 Groups) and new items like rural housing, online media, and value-added dairy products.
•MoSPI Secretary Saurabh Garg highlighted that base year revisions improve data quality for AI and machine learning applications.
