Madras HC Stays Contempt Proceedings in Thiruparankundram Deepam Case

• A Division Bench of the Madras High Court granted an interim stay on contempt proceedings against Madurai District Collector and Thiruparankundram temple authorities.
• The proceedings were initiated by a single judge in connection with the Karthigai Deepam case.
• The appeals challenging the contempt orders were filed by authorities including the Madurai District Collector and Madurai City Commissioner of Police.
• The Division Bench adjourned the further hearing of the appeals to April 8.
• Earlier, Justice GR Swaminathan had suggested allowing five persons for symbolic prayers at the Deepam, a suggestion the temple trustees needed to discuss.
