Multi-State WhatsApp Investment Scam Busted, 12 Arrested by UP Police

• A pan-India cyber investment fraud with alleged overseas links was busted, leading to 12 arrests from six states.
• Accused ran a nationwide cyber investment racket through WhatsApp groups, luring and cheating investors.
• Aligarh cyber crime cell identified 600 WhatsApp groups, preventing an estimated Rs 500 crore fraud affecting 1.5 lakh people.
• The scam came to light after a retired bank official was cheated of over Rs 11 lakh through a WhatsApp-based scheme.
• Police are seeking assistance from CBI and Interpol to trace masterminds operating from foreign countries.
