Mumbai Airport Flyover to Host First-Ever Urban Farm, Transforming Neglected Space
•Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) launches a pilot project to convert 24,000-sqft under Mumbai airport's T1 flyover into a community urban farm.
•The initiative, a first for the Western Express Highway (WEH) corridor, aims to create a functional green ecosystem for locals to grow vegetables, fruits, and plants.
•BMC provides land, water, and electricity, while local organizations like Swachh Parle Abhiyan and Parle Vriksha Mitra handle other work.
•Dedicated cultivation pits will be offered to local residents on an adoption basis, fostering a "farm-to-table" culture and allowing sale of surplus organic produce.
•The project includes a "plant creche" for plant maintenance, uses compost from wet waste, and plans to replicate the model across other flyovers if successful.
