Nanded aims for 1 lakh 'jaltaras' to recharge groundwater
- •Nanded district plans to construct one lakh 'jaltaras' to harvest monsoon runoff.
- •District Collector Rahul Kardile announced the initiative on World Soil Day, inaugurating the 'Jaltara Shramdaan' drive.
- •The 'jaltara' program aims to increase groundwater levels, reduce soil erosion, improve soil structure, and enhance crop productivity.
- •MGNREGA Department and Bharat Rural Livelihoods Foundation are jointly implementing a High Impact Mega Watershed Project to support this mission.
- •A 'jaltara' is a 5x5x6 ft pit filled with stones, designed to allow approximately 3.6 lakh litres of water to seep into the ground.
