Rajasthan reports 21 custodial deaths in two years, government informs assembly

• Rajasthan government informed the assembly about 21 deaths in police custody between January 1, 2024, and December 31, 2025.
• Eight custodial deaths were recorded in 2024, and 13 in 2025.
• Cases were registered and both judicial and administrative inquiries were ordered in all instances.
• Judicial inquiries found no police negligence in completed cases, except one where departmental inquiry was recommended.
• All deaths were attributed to natural causes or suicide; probe pending in nine cases from 2025.
