Sebi Warns Investors: Beware of Fake STT Notices and Fraudulent Fund Managers
•
Sebi cautions investors against fake notices demanding Securities Transaction Tax (STT) payments, circulated using forged letterheads.
•
STT is levied on securities transactions and collected by brokers; Sebi does not issue notices for STT remittance or coordinate with RBI on it.
•
Fraudsters are impersonating Sebi officials, misusing its logo/seal to send forged communications and solicit money, leading to financial losses.
•
Sebi also warns against fraudsters posing as account handlers or fund managers promising risk-free profits and demanding trading account access.
•
Investors are advised to verify Sebi registration of entities and transact only through authentic trading apps of registered intermediaries.
