Sonakshi Sinha, PETA Gift Mechanical Elephant to Kerala Temple for Cruelty-Free Rituals

  • Bollywood actor Sonakshi Sinha and PETA India donated a life-size mechanical elephant, Pallipuram Unnikrishnan, to Pallipuram Sreekrishna Temple in Thrissur, Kerala.
  • The 3-meter-tall, 500-kilogram mechanical elephant was unveiled on Sunday and will be used for temple ceremonies, replacing live elephants.
  • This donation recognizes the temple's commitment to animal welfare, as it previously used live elephants for Pooram celebrations but now opts for mechanical ones.
  • Pallipuram Unnikrishnan is the 19th mechanical elephant donated by PETA India to temples and the 10th in Kerala, with six of these in Thrissur.
  • The mechanical elephant mimics real elephants, capable of head and ear movements, trunk lifting, and water spraying, ensuring safe and cruelty-free traditions.

Why It Matters: Sonakshi Sinha and PETA gifted a mechanical elephant to a Kerala temple, promoting cruelty-free traditions.
