Vizhinjam Port Soars to 83rd Global Rank in Container Handling
•Vizhinjam International Seaport in Kerala has achieved the 83rd global position in container handling within just over a year of commercial operations.
•Developed by Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Limited (APSEZ) in a PPP with the Kerala government, the port sets benchmarks for deep-water container facilities.
•The second phase of development, a Rs 16,000-crore expansion, is part of Adani Group's Rs 30,000-crore investment commitment in Kerala.
•In January 2026, the port recorded its highest monthly container handling (1,23,092 TEUs), 62 vessels handled, and a gross crane rate (GCR) of 30.12 container lifts per hour.
•Vizhinjam is India’s first semi-automated container port, capable of handling the world’s largest vessels, and has deployed an advanced Vessel Traffic Management System (VTMS).
