Meghalaya to get Weavers' Service Centre: Giriraj Singh
- •Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh announced a Weavers’ Service Centre (WSC) will be set up in Meghalaya, pending state government land allotment.
- •The WSC aims to provide design, technical, and market support to weavers in the region.
- •Singh also inaugurated the Integrated Textile & Tourism Centre (ITTC) in Nongpoh and launched ‘EKTA’ Meghalaya, an exhibition for textiles advantage.
- •The ITTC will serve as a platform for training, design development, silk processing, product diversification, and textile tourism.
- •Plans were announced to enhance farmers' income by expanding Muga sericulture, moving from two to three crops, with a joint initiative by the Central Silk Board and Meghalaya.
