Giriraj Singh: Meghalaya to Get Weavers' Centre, Boost Muga Silk

• A Weavers’ Service Centre (WSC) will be established in Meghalaya, pending land allotment from the state government, as announced by Union Textiles Minister Giriraj Singh.
• The Integrated Textile & Tourism Centre (ITTC) was inaugurated in Nongpoh, serving as a platform for training, design, silk processing, product diversification, and textile tourism.
• Plans were announced to expand Muga sericulture, aiming to increase farmer income by moving from two to three crops, with joint efforts from the Central Silk Board and Meghalaya sericulture department.
• The Northeast, home to 52% of India's handlooms, was highlighted as the "pride of India’s textile heritage," with textile ministers planning a meeting in Guwahati to discuss a regional agenda.
