•India signs a five-year agreement with the World Food Programme (WFP) to supply rice for global humanitarian operations.
•The MoU between Food Corporation of India (FCI) and WFP aims to support emergency food assistance and hunger-relief efforts in vulnerable regions.
•FCI will supply up to 200,000 metric tonnes of rice over five years, with pricing determined annually; current price fixed at Rs 2,800 per quintal until March 31, 2026.
•The pact was signed by FCI Chairman Rabindra Kumar Agarwal and WFP Deputy Executive Director Carl Skau, highlighting India's growing global responsibility in food security.
•This agreement reinforces India's role as a reliable contributor to global food systems and a leader of the Global South, especially amid acute food insecurity worldwide.
