India's Feb Power Demand Hits 15-Year High Amid Soaring Temperatures: Crisil Report

India's power demand in February reached a 15-year high, driven by rising temperatures and increased cooling requirements.
•
Electricity consumption surged 2% year-on-year to 133 billion units, marking the highest demand for the month since at least 2010.
•
Crisil forecasts India's power demand to grow 1-1.5% in FY26, reaching 1,705-1,715 BU, supported by economic activity and warmer weather.
•
Industrial and commercial consumers account for 50% of demand; February's peak demand hit 244 GW.
•
Coal remained dominant (73% of generation), despite growth in renewables (39.6 GW added) and increased hydro/nuclear output.
