JNU Rusticates Entire JNUSU Leadership Over Alleged Vandalism

  • Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) has rusticated all four current office-bearers of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students’ Union (JNUSU) and a former president.
  • The rusticated students include President Aditi Mishra, Vice President Gopika Babu, General Secretary Sunil Yadav, Joint Secretary Danish Ali, and former president Nitish Kumar.
  • They have been rusticated for two semesters, fined Rs 20,000 each, and barred from campus for alleged vandalism of facial recognition gates during a November 2025 protest.
  • The university cited property damage amounting to Rs 20 lakh; student groups call it a crackdown on dissent.
  • The decision leaves JNUSU without elected representation until fresh polls, with warnings against sheltering the rusticated students.
