NCERT Recalls Class 8 Textbook After SC Bans Publication & Circulation

NCERT has ordered the immediate recall of its Class 8 Social Science textbook, *Exploring Society: India and Beyond, Part 2*.
•
The recall follows a Supreme Court order dated February 26, 2026, banning its publication and circulation.
•
Individuals, schools, and organizations are asked to return copies and remove digital content from the chapter “Role of Judiciary in Our Society”.
•
The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, initiated a suo motu case regarding a sub-section on “Corruption in the Judiciary”.
•
NCERT apologized for the “unintentional error” and withdrew the book, blocking its digital version.
