India Targets 70% Non-Fossil Fuel Power by FY'36, Reaching 786 GW Capacity

India aims for 70% non-fossil fuel-based power generation capacity (786 GW) by 2035-36, out of a total 1121 GW planned capacity.
•
The National Generation Adequacy Plan, released at the Bharat Electricity Summit 2026, outlines this target.
•
Current non-fossil capacity is 275 GW (52.5% of 524 GW total) as of February 28, 2026.
•
Projected capacity by 2035-36 includes 509 GW Solar, 155 GW Wind, 78 GW Hydro, and 22 GW Nuclear.
•
Energy storage capacity of 174 GW/888 GWh is also envisioned, with a planned transmission system costing ₹7,93,300 crore.
