A Quess Corp report reveals 69% of formal payroll-linked jobs are now in Tier-2 and Tier-3 cities, shifting employment beyond major metros.
•
Tier-3 towns alone account for 40% of the workforce, while Tier-2 hubs contribute 29%, compared to 31% in Tier-1 cities.
•
Coimbatore, Indore, Surat, Vadodara, Noida, and Lucknow are emerging as key employment centers.
•
Retail, BFSI, manufacturing, telecom, FMCG, and logistics are major job creators in smaller cities.
•
A young workforce (64% under 30) and high job mobility are key factors, with over 26,000 new UANs created in H1 FY26, 23% for women.
