Atal Pension Yojana Extended Till 2031: Boost for Unorganised Sector Social Security
- •The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the extension of the Atal Pension Yojana (APY) until the end of the 2030-31 financial year.
- •Government funding support for promotional, developmental, and gap-funding activities will also continue, aiming to expand coverage among unorganised sector workers.
- •The scheme provides a guaranteed monthly pension of ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 after 60 years of age, depending on the subscriber's contribution.
- •The extension will strengthen old-age income security, deepen financial inclusion, and support India's transition towards a pensioned society, aligning with the Viksit Bharat @2047 vision.
- •Launched in 2015, APY has enrolled over 8.66 crore subscribers as of January 19, 2026, becoming a key pillar of India’s social security framework.
Why It Matters: Atal Pension Yojana extended to 2031, ensuring continued social security for unorganised sector workers.
