• The decision aims to strengthen old-age income security and promote financial inclusion, especially for the unorganized sector.
• APY, launched on May 9, 2015, provides a guaranteed monthly pension of Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000 after age 60.
• As of January 19, 2026, over 8.66 crore people have joined the scheme, aligning with the Viksit Bharat 2047 goal.
