Cabinet Greenlights ₹4,474 Cr Rail Projects for Eastern India Capacity Boost
•The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs (CCEA) approved two railway multi-tracking projects worth ₹4,474 crore on March 10.
•Projects include a ₹2,905 crore fourth line on Santragachi–Kharagpur (West Bengal) and a ₹1,569 crore line on Sainthia Junction–Pakur (WB & Jharkhand).
•Aims to enhance capacity, improve operational efficiency, ease congestion, and expand the Indian Railways network by 192 km.
•Expected to support 31 million tonnes per annum additional freight, benefiting 5 districts, 5,600 villages, and 14.7 million people.
•Will facilitate transport of key commodities, improve tourist access to Bolpur-Shantiniketan and Tarapith, and reduce logistics costs and carbon emissions.
