Centre Notes Indore Water Contamination, Aids States with AMRUT Schemes

  • Union Minister Tokhan Sahu informed Rajya Sabha about the Indore water contamination incident in Bhagirath Pura.
  • The contamination is linked to ageing and damaged pipelines from 1997; old stretches are being addressed under AMRUT 2.0.
  • Several residents of Bhagirath Pura suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting since late December due to contaminated water.
  • Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) has initiated four water supply projects under AMRUT 2.0, with one package commenced and three awaiting approval.
  • The Centre supports states with financial and technical schemes like AMRUT, while water management remains a state responsibility.

Why It Matters: Centre acknowledges Indore water contamination, providing support through AMRUT schemes for infrastructure upgrades.
