Earth's 5th Warmest February: Delhi, Mumbai Sizzle Amidst Global Extremes
•February 2026 ranked as the fifth warmest globally, with temperatures 1.49°C above pre-industrial levels, according to Copernicus Climate Change Service (C3S).
•Western Europe experienced repeated storms and widespread flooding, impacting France, Spain, Portugal, and Morocco, causing damage and loss of life.
•Heavy rains and flooding also affected Australia, Mozambique, and Botswana; Arctic sea ice extent dropped to its third lowest for February.
•India recorded early heat spikes: Delhi's Safdarjung observatory hit 31.6°C (7.2°C above normal), and Mumbai's Santacruz reached 36.3°C (4.3°C above normal).
•ECMWF's Samantha Burgess emphasized these events highlight growing climate change impacts and the urgent need for global action.
