Iran repatriates 180 sailors, warship victims' bodies from India amid rising tensions

•Iran has arranged special transportation to repatriate approximately 180 sailors from India, primarily from Kochi.
•The repatriation also includes the bodies of sailors who died after a US submarine sank their ship off the coast of Sri Lanka.
•This development follows the sinking of the Iranian frigate IRIS Dena by a US submarine off Sri Lanka a week ago, escalating Middle East tensions.
•India is negotiating with Iran for safe passage for its vessels, grappling with an energy crisis and a shortage of cooking gas.
•India's External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has held multiple discussions with Iranian counterpart Abbas Araghchi on vessel safety and energy security.

Tanker Rates Surge | Very large crude carriers or VLCC saw rates surge even after an already sharp increase in the first two months of the year so far. As per the Baltic exchange, the time charter equivalent, the essential daily revenue for VLCCs surged to $1,77,469 last week from $37,869 at the start of the year. “Even without significant further disruptions in the Strait, precautionary restocking and redirection can raise already elevated freight rates further,” Goldman Sachs wrote in a note to clients on Sunday.
