Rs 1,340 Cr MGNREGA Wage Dues: 82% Concentrated in Just 4 States

  • MGNREGA wage pendency totals Rs 1,340 crore.
  • 82% of pending wages (Rs 1,095 crore) are concentrated in four states: Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, and Madhya Pradesh.
  • Andhra Pradesh has the highest pendency at Rs 402.93 crore, followed by Kerala (Rs 339.87 crore).
  • These four states account for 25% of active MGNREGA workers but nearly 82% of all pending wages.
  • The government has allocated Rs 86,000 crore for MGNREGA in FY 2024-25 and 2025-26, the highest ever at the Budget Estimate stage.

Why It Matters: Concentrated MGNREGA wage delays in 4 states undermine rural employment and livelihoods.
