Project Cheetah: 8 Cheetahs from Botswana Arrive Feb 28, Boosting India's Conservation Efforts

  • Eight cheetahs from Botswana are set to arrive in India on February 28, enhancing Project Cheetah's goal of reintroducing the species.
  • The transfer plan was finalized in a high-level meeting between Union Minister Bhupender Yadav and Madhya Pradesh CM Dr. Mohan Yadav.
  • Discussions also covered Madhya Pradesh's reserved forest areas for tourism and biodiversity, and bringing wild buffaloes from Assam.
  • Preparations for quarantine, monitoring, and acclimatization of the new cheetahs are already underway by forest officials.
  • India currently has 30 cheetahs, including 19 born on Indian soil, with Kuno National Park and Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary central to the project.
