Marathwada-Khandesh Connectivity Boost: 45-Minute Journey to 15 with New Tunnel

• The Kannad-Autram Ghat, a major obstacle between Marathwada and Khandesh, will be bypassed by a new tunnel project on the Solapur-Dhule National Highway.
• The 5.5 km dual tunnel, designed for 100 km/h, will cut travel time through the ghat from 45 minutes to 10-15 minutes, enhancing safety and efficiency.
• Environmental clearances, previously a hurdle due to the Gautala-Autram Ghat Wildlife Sanctuary, were expedited after Union Minister Nitin Gadkari's intervention.
• Estimated to cost between 12434 to 12600 crore, the project includes emergency exits, fire-fighting, and security systems, with construction under the mountain to avoid deforestation.
• The tunnel will significantly reduce accidents, save fuel, and boost the economy of Marathwada and Khandesh by improving trade, industry, and communication.
