• CM Chandrababu Naidu lays foundation stone for Veligonda Project feeder canal lining works in Markapuram district, his first visit since its formation.
• The Rs. 456 crore project includes 21.8 km of cement concrete lining and a 5.3 km retaining wall, crucial for safe water transport.
• Project aims to provide irrigation to 4.47 lakh acres across 30 mandals in Markapuram, Nellore, and Kadapa districts, benefiting 1.19 lakh acres in Markapuram alone in the first phase.
• It will supply safe drinking water to 15.25 lakh people in fluoride-affected areas and water for industrial hubs, boosting local economy.
• Government targets completion of feeder canal lining by June 2026 and the entire project by end of 2026, with Nallamala Sagar filled by August 2026.
