V2X Tech to Transform Indian Roads: Cars to Alert Drivers of Potholes, Accidents
•Government pushes for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology to enhance road safety and driving experience in India.
•V2X will enable cars to communicate with each other and road infrastructure, providing real-time alerts on hazards like potholes, accidents, and traffic jams.
•TRAI is tasked with determining the spectrum framework and pricing for V2X, with 50 MHz already reserved in the 5.8 GHz band.
•The technology relies on On-Board Units (OBUs) in vehicles and Roadside Units (RSUs) on infrastructure, with RSUs to be provided to NHAI/state governments without auction for safety.
•V2X aims to reduce road accidents, aid driving in bad weather, alleviate traffic congestion, and improve fleet management, marking a shift towards 'smart' roads.
