Government Blocks 3.9 Million Mobile Connections, 2.8 Million WhatsApp Accounts to Combat Cyber Fraud
- •The government has deactivated 3.943 million mobile numbers and blacklisted 227,000 mobile phones nationwide to curb cyber fraud.
- •Additionally, 131,000 fraudulent SMS templates and 2.8 million WhatsApp accounts linked to suspicious activities have been blocked.
- •Dr. Pemmasani Chandra Shekhar, Minister of State for Communications, shared this information in Rajya Sabha, highlighting the Digital Intelligence Platform (DIP) and Sanchar Saathi initiative.
- •The 'Sanchar Saathi' portal allows citizens to report suspicious calls/messages via 'Chakshu', while the I4C handles cases with actual financial loss.
- •These actions, based on 770,000 citizen inputs and Fraud Risk Indicator (FRI) alerts, have prevented over 1,000 crore rupees in potential fraud.
