India to Export 5 Lakh Tonnes of Wheat Flour After 3-Year Ban Lift

  • The Indian government has approved the export of 5 lakh tonnes of wheat flour and related products, lifting a ban imposed in 2022.
  • This partial relaxation comes after more than three years, with the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issuing a notification on January 16.
  • Applicants for export must obtain permission from DGFT and possess a valid IEC and FSSAI license; applications for the first phase open January 21-31, 2026.
  • Export authorizations will be valid for 6 months, and the quantity will be decided by a special Exim Facilitation Committee.
  • The export includes maida and sooji, aiming to promote domestic brands and explore new markets, while the ban on raw wheat export remains.

Why It Matters: India resumes wheat flour exports after a three-year ban, allowing 5 lakh tonnes to global markets.
