Indian Railways: 90% Drop in Accidents Since 2014-15, Safety Budget Soars
•Indian Railways recorded a significant 90% reduction in serious accidents, from 135 in 2014-15 to just 14 by February 2025-26.
•Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw informed Lok Sabha about continuous safety measures and modern technology leading to safer rail travel.
•Total accidents decreased from 1,711 (2004-2014) to 678 (2014-2024), highlighting improved operational safety.
•Safety budget increased from Rs 39,200 crore (2013-14) to Rs 1,17,693 crore (2025-26), with Rs 1,20,389 crore allocated for 2026-27.
•Technological upgrades include electronic interlocking at 6,665 stations and 'Kavach' system activated on 1,452 km, including Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah routes.
