New Congestion Tax Proposed for Mumbai: Car Drivers to Pay More

•A Mumbai corporator proposed a congestion tax to tackle traffic and pollution in metro cities.
•The tax would apply to vehicles entering Central Business Districts (CBDs) during peak hours (8-11 AM, 5-8 PM).
•Drivers could be charged 50 to 100 rupees per entry, monitored via CCTV and ANPR cameras.
•Congestion tax aims to reduce private vehicle use, decrease traffic, and lower pollution.
•Similar taxes are already implemented in Singapore, London, Sweden, Gothenburg, and Milan, with New York City set to follow in 2025.
