Women Want Homes, But Loan Access Remains a Challenge in India
•Indian women increasingly aspire to own homes and invest in real estate, with 61% targeting properties above Rs 90 lakh, up from 25% in 2019.
•Despite high interest in real estate (71% prefer it over gold/FDs), women secured only 11% of home loans approved in 2025, according to an Urban Money report.
•The average home loan size for women was Rs 23 lakh, significantly lower than Rs 29 lakh for men, often due to lower income and career breaks.
•Common reasons for loan rejection include insufficient income, unstable employment, low credit score, and lack of credit history.
•To improve chances, women should build independent credit history, maintain good credit scores, and keep income documents ready.
