RBI Update: Rs 2,000 Notes Still Legal, Exchange Options Available
- •RBI confirms over 98% of Rs 2,000 banknotes returned by December 31, 2025, with Rs 5,669 crore still in circulation.
- •Despite withdrawal, Rs 2,000 notes remain legal tender; holding them is not a crime, but they must be returned.
- •Bank branch exchange facility for Rs 2,000 notes ended on October 7, 2023.
- •Individuals can deposit or exchange notes at any of RBI's 19 Issue Offices from October 9, 2023.
- •Notes can also be sent via India Post to an RBI Issue Office for credit to bank accounts.
