Still Have 2000 Rupee Notes? RBI Offers Direct Exchange Options in 2026

RBI announced 2000 rupee note withdrawal on May 19, 2023; 98.44% returned by February 28, 2026.
•
Regular bank exchange closed October 7, 2023; notes now exchanged directly via RBI.
•
Visit one of 19 RBI Issue Offices: exchange up to Rs 20,000 with Aadhaar, PAN, bank details (10 AM to 2:30 PM).
•
Alternatively, send notes via insured speed post to nearest RBI office after filling application form from RBI website.
•
2000 rupee notes remain legal tender but require KYC-updated bank account for deposit; avoid middlemen.
