IIT Madras Unveils 'Smog-Eater' Tech for Delhi Roads: Turning Pollution into Water
•
Delhi government partners with IIT Madras for a six-month pilot project using photocatalytic surfaces.

Technology utilizes titanium dioxide (TiO₂) to break down pollutants like NO₂ and VOCs into less harmful substances.
•
The 'smog-eater' system is passive, requires no electricity, and has zero operational costs, activating with sunlight.
•
Lab tests showed TiO₂-coated concrete removed up to 77.5% of NOx; field trials also demonstrated pollution reduction.
•
Application includes coating roads, pavements, building walls, street light poles, and various city surfaces.
