Thieves Strike New Delhi Metro Line 4 Days After Inauguration, Halting Trains
•Thieves stole approximately 500 meters of crucial copper cable from the newly inaugurated Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park Delhi Metro corridor.
•The incident occurred just four days after Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 9.9 km metro line, causing significant disruption to services.
•The stolen cable, vital for the signaling system, forced metro trains to operate at a reduced speed of 25 km/h, inconveniencing passengers.
•Police arrested Sheikh Safiq, 28, from Jahangirpuri, in connection with the theft, recovering 170-180 meters of burnt cable.
•This is not an isolated incident; 89 cable theft cases have been reported since June 2024, involving 22 km of copper wire worth 4 crore rupees.
