CAQM's EV-only plan for Delhi-NCR by 2030 sparks pushback from gas firms, automakers
•CAQM panel recommends only electric cars be registered in Delhi-NCR by 2030 to tackle air pollution.
•Transport pollution, including private cars and taxis, accounts for 23% of PM 2.5 concentrations, making it the largest primary source in winters.
•Indraprastha Gas Ltd (IGL) suggests a "dual pathway" with CNG for medium/heavy vehicles and electric for two-wheelers, advocating for a technology-neutral energy transition.
•IGL also proposes phasing out diesel vehicles in Delhi-NCR and converting them to CNG due to negligible particulate matter emissions.
•Automakers express concern over the rapid transition, citing lack of charging infrastructure, grid capacity, and consumer financing for an all-EV mandate.
