Delhi Deploys Finnish Dredger in Najafgarh Drain to Combat Yamuna Pollution

  • Delhi government deployed an 8 crore Finnish-made amphibious dredger in the Najafgarh drain.
  • The Najafgarh drain contributes nearly 70 percent of the Yamuna River's total pollution load.
  • Irrigation and Flood Control Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma inaugurated the dredger at Dulsiras village.
  • The dredger can remove 600 cubic metres of sludge per hour and operates in depths up to six metres.
  • Three self-propelled hopper barges, costing Rs 5.25 crore, were also deployed to assist in cleaning.
