UP Voter List Revision: 1.4 Crore to Get Notices After Major SIR Exercise

  • Uttar Pradesh's Chief Electoral Officer Navdeep Rinwa announced 1.4 crore voters (8% of electorate) will receive notices as their details couldn't be fully verified during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
  • The draft roll now lists 12.55 crore voters, a significant reduction from 15.44 crore, with 2.89 crore deletions due to migration, deaths, duplicates, or unreceived forms.
  • The notice period began January 6, requiring voters to submit documents for inclusion in the final roll, to be published on March 6; claims and objections are open until February 6.
  • The BJP held a meeting with CM Yogi Adityanath and other leaders to review the SIR exercise and plan outreach to help eligible voters whose names were omitted.
  • Eligibility for the final roll includes those 18 by January 1, 2026; the process also involved rationalizing polling stations and creating 15,030 new ones.

Why It Matters: UP's massive voter list revision (SIR) will send notices to 1.4 crore unverified voters, leading to significant deletions and a BJP outreach effort.
