5.5 Magnitude Earthquake Jolts Kolkata, South Bengal; Epicenter Near Khulna, Bangladesh

A 5.5 magnitude earthquake struck Kolkata and several districts in South Bengal on Friday.
•
The epicenter was near Khulna, Bangladesh, approximately 90 km from Kolkata, and 26 km southeast of Taki, West Bengal.
•
The earthquake occurred at 1:22 PM IST, at a depth of 9.8 kilometers, and lasted for about 52 seconds.
•
Residents in Kolkata reported houses shaking, and people evacuated multi-story buildings.
•
This follows a 4.2 magnitude earthquake in North Bengal on Thursday and another in Sikkim earlier in February.
