Northeast Frontier Railway Boosts Train Safety with Advanced Tech: Hot Box Detectors & ATES

  • Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) has installed 30 Hot Box Detectors (HBD) across its network to monitor axle box bearing temperatures on moving trains, preventing potential derailments.
  • An additional 43 HBDs are in procurement to further enhance NFR's safety monitoring infrastructure.
  • Three Automatic Train Examination Systems (ATES) have been installed at New Jalpaiguri to automatically detect wheel defects, axle box defects, and other abnormalities in freight trains.
  • ATES helps maintenance personnel plan timely repairs, reducing inspection time and ensuring reliable freight operations.
  • A test rake with five wagons has been introduced in Rangiya Division for testing and calibrating 15 in-motion weighbridges, ensuring accuracy of weight measurements.
