Retired Officer Duped of 7 Crore in Elaborate Drainage Repair Scam

• A retired Additional Director from Serum Institute of India (SII) was defrauded of 7 crore rupees in Pune.
• The scam began with a plumber, Sandeep Chavan, posing as a PMC officer, offering a 65,000 rupee drainage repair.
• Fraudsters extorted money by threatening municipal rule violations, penalties, property seizure, and 'machine deposit' fees.
• The scam escalated to 'digital arrest' and 'social engineering' with fake police and judge calls threatening legal action and life imprisonment.
• The officer transferred life savings, retirement funds, and other savings, totaling 6,70,37,500 rupees, to the fraudsters.
