•India seized three tankers carrying Iranian and Russian oil under US sanctions, only for the US to later ease restrictions on 'shadow fleet' tankers.
•In 2019, India stopped Iranian oil imports under US pressure, benefiting China which continued buying cheap Iranian oil.
•India is now attempting to buy Iranian oil again, but Iran has no stock and is unwilling to offer previous discounts.
•Similar pressure led India to reduce Russian oil imports, only for the US to grant a 30-day waiver for existing Russian oil purchases.
