• DRDO is developing a new variant of the Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRAShM) for the Army and Air Force, previously naval-focused.
• LRAShM is a boost-glide hypersonic weapon, reaching speeds up to Mach 10 (12,000 KMPH), making it undetectable by conventional radars.
• The missile can eliminate terrorist masterminds like Masood Azhar and Hafiz Saeed in their hideouts with surface-to-surface and air-to-surface variants.
• It utilizes proven technologies from BO-5 SLBM and BrahMos missile, reducing development time and technical risks.
• LRAShM offers three times the operational range of the Pralay missile, enabling strikes on heavily defended targets without nuclear systems.
