New WhatsApp-Telegram SIM Rule Today: App Stops if SIM Removed
•
New SIM binding rules for messaging apps like WhatsApp, Telegram, and Signal are now fully effective in India, issued by DoT.
•
If the registered SIM is removed, changed, or becomes inactive, the app will automatically stop working; re-verification is needed to resume use.
•
WhatsApp Web/desktop users will be logged out every six hours, requiring a QR code scan with the active SIM for re-login.
•
The rules aim to curb cyber fraud and online scams by permanently linking accounts to KYC-verified SIMs, making it easier to trace criminals.
•
These rules apply to Indian-registered accounts and OTT platforms; non-compliance may lead to action under telecom and cybersecurity laws.
